Flings turn serious for three bachelors who swore to stay single in support of a heartbroken pal. Now the harder each of them try to cover up their commitments, the more complicated their love lives become.
That Awkward Moment.
That Awkward Moment stars Zac Efron, Miles Teller, & Micheal B. Jordan & tells the story of these 3 best friends that in support of their friend going through a divorce make a bet that they will stay out of relationships, stay single & whoever broke that pact would lose the bet. But as the bet roles on they each start falling for a girl, so as they start to try covering up their commitments, the harder & more complicated their love lives become. The film is also directed by Tom Gormican. Is That Awkward Moment an Awkward 1 hour & 30 minutes to sit through?
In the long run That Awkward Moment could’ve been somewhat promising but ends up missing & at best ended up being Average due to it’s script & predictability but at the same time isn’t a complete disaster because w/ it’s misses it also has it’s hits coming from the cast, the humor here & there, & how relatable it could be for some out there. That Awkward Moment has been described as “Sex in the city, but for single guys” & yeah, sure that maybe be the case, this is a Romance at the end of the day but not one see through the eyes of women but of us men, so through your “chick-flick” out the window & enter your “dude-flick”/“bromantic” comedy for this one. Will it have your typical dick jokes here & there well yeah, but there’s a meaning to this story to this movie beyond that.
What really made That Awkward Moment not so Awkward to watch was the cast in Zac Efron, Miles Teller, & Micheal B. Jordan. You have your textbook characters w/ the ladies man in Zac Efron, your typical funny & sarcastic friend in Miles Teller & the one friend going through a heartbreak in Micheal B. Jordan. The bromance, the chemistry these 3 have on screen is really fun to see & you instantly notice they all click. In all fairness everyone did a solid job in their roles, i’ve never really minded Zac Efron but I though he was ok w/ his performance, then we have Miles Teller & Micheal B. Jordan who both really impressed me Teller in “The Spectacular Now” & Jordan in “Fruitvale Station” & again both here in their roles were quite good, Teller in my opinion is who stood out the most stealing most of the show, but when it comes both these actors they’ll keep getting better w/ time & i’ll be one keeping my eye on what’s next for them.
As I mentioned earlier this is romantic comedy that’s primarily focusing on appealing more to the common male, we see what love is & see how relationships are dealt w/ through the eyes, the point of view of these three guys, which brings out how relatable this movie can be. Now as a guy at times I often related to the film in the sense how we look at love, relationships, sex, girls, ect. I could also relate (but maybe not as much) to the situations that were surrounding these fellas love life’s, but I know a few friends that went through similar situations such as the ones in the movie who can definitely look back at their situation & relate to it. This movie did a good picking at your typical guys brian & bringing out how we would see & take in these sort of topics, if your a guy going into That Awkward Moment it’s very likely you’ll leave having something in common or relatable to what you’ve just seen.
Throughout the movie you’ll get the fair number of dick jokes, fart jokes, & more of the sorts but that’s not only what’s surrounding the movie, there’s more to the film than that. As the story progresses so do the relationships & it’s characters, but most importantly the drama of each characters relationships start growing, & that’s where the film starts to focus & shows you how vulnerable one can be in a relationship, how one’s behavior can chance in a relationship, along w/ other stages one can go through & experience when dating. If you can look past the raunchy humor you get a story that takes modern relationships & relationships as a whole & delivers a story w/ heart (if you will) to give you an average relationship movie, it’s script as I mentioned was what I kept it from being more than average.
At the end of the day I turned out to enjoy That Awkward Moment more than I thought I would. The film is an average romantic comedy that misses out on being more than that due to both it’s predictability & script issues, but offers funny humor, laughable situations & a fun cast to see on screen to keep your attention throughout the film. Is that Awkward Moment one that offers or brings anything new to the romanic comedy genre? Not necessarily but it’s one that’s not that awkward to sit through. That Awkward Moment is a FLICK-ONDEMAND. There’s no real rush to see this one out in theaters, but it’s more worth a watch at home & enjoy on demand.
